Hemisphere S631 HI Measurements



Looking to setup your base and rover up for the first time? With FieldGenius, you can setup a profile that will save your settings and make setup faster the next time.
To begin, select the Plumb Bob to open the Main Menu.
From the Main Menu select the Connect option.
In the Instrument Selection menu, select the GNSS Reference option.
To create a new profile, select the Add option.
Enter a Profile Name and select Save.
To create your profile, select the Edit option.
In the GNSS Profile menu select the Model and Communication option.
Next, select the Manufacturer as Hemisphere and Model as S631. Ensure the Port is selected as Bluetooth.
Next, to search for your device, select Bluetooth Device List.
If your device is not in the list, select Search to find all nearby devices.
Select the name that corresponds to your device. The Serial Number should match that on the bottom.
With your device selected, press Close.
To finish the setup, press Connect.
Once connected, you will be returned to the Map Screen. We can set our base up using one of three methods. In this guide, we will do an unknown position setup. If you need to a known or local transform setup, please consult the below guides.
To setup on an Unknown Position, select the Known Position button above Start Reference.
Next, select the Averaged Geodetic Position option from the Reference Position Mode menu.
With your Reference Mode selected, press Start Reference.
Once Start Reference is selected, you will begin to automatically average a position. After you have reached an acceptable number of positions, select Set Position.
It is highly recommended that you save the base position to the file. This will allow you to return to site and not have to perform a localization on the second day.
Select Yes.
Enter any relevant information and select Store Pnt to save your position to file.
Select the appropriate Measure Point and enter the Measured Height.
Next, measure from the ground above which the receiver is placed to one of the measure points on the receiver.
With the correct height measured, select Ok.
In the Link Configure menu, select the Device Type as UHF Radio Module and the Device Port as Internal.
Under Correction Data ensure the Message Type is set to RTCM 3 (MSM).
Next, select the Press to Setup option.
In the Radio Setup menu, ensure the Protocol is set to Satel and the Transmit Power to 1000 mW.
Make note of the Channel and FEC Status as both will have to match the rover settings.
Once the settings have been confirmed, select OK.
Finally, to program the radio, select Connect.
Once the broadcast has started, the radio light on the receiver will begin flashing once per second.
You will be returned to the Map Screen. To continue onto the rover setup, select the Plumb Bob in the bottom of the screen.
In the Main Menu, select Disconnect.
Once the Main Menu reloads, select the Connect option.
In the Instruments Profile menu, select the GNSS Rover option.
Next, you can create a new profile by selecting Add. Once created select Edit to move forward with your profile.
From the GNSS Profile menu, select the Model and Communication option.
In the Model and Communication menu, select the Make as Hemisphere and the Model as S631. Ensure the Port is set to Bluetooth.
To pair your receiver, select Bluetooth Device List.
In the Bluetooth Device List menu, you will be presented with a list of any instruments you had previously connected to. If your instrument is in the list you can select it.
If you receiver is not present, select the Search option.
If your device is on, you should see a device name that matches the serial number found on the bottom of the receiver. Select your receiver.
With your device highlighted in the Bluetooth Device List, select the Close option.
Finally, select Connect.
Once connected, if your receiver does not automatically connect, you will be taken to the Link Configure screen.
Ensure that Device Type is selected as UHF Radio Module and the Device Port is set to Internal. Ensure the Message Type is set to the same as the base or to Any.
Next, select Press to Setup to view the radio settings.
Ensure that the radio settings are identical to those found on the base. If there is a mismatch, you will not be able to obtain a fixed solution.
Press Ok to continue.
Finally, select Connect.
On the Map Screen, you should see an RTK Fixed solution in the bottom right corner.
Before surveying, select the Antenna Height option to enter the measured height.
Again, enter the Measured Height and appropriate measure point.
Select Ok to save the settings.
You are now ready to survey but, if you see Initialize IMU, follow the guide below to calibrate the tilt sensor.




If you do not the coordinates of your base station there is no need to worry! An unknown position setup uses an averaged position to determine the coordinates.
This guide assumes you have already connected to your base station, if you have not already done this, please see the guide below.
To setup on an Unknown Position, select the Known Position button above Start Reference.
Next, select the Averaged Geodetic Position option from the Reference Position Mode menu.
With your Reference Mode selected, press Start Reference.
Once Start Reference is selected, you will begin to automatically average a position. After you have reached an acceptable number of positions, select Set Position.
It is highly recommended that you save the base position to the file. This will allow you to return to site and not have to perform a localization on the second day.
Select Yes.

If you have a saved position, or an existing point that you wish to set your base up over the Known Point setup is the way to go!
This guide assumes you have already connected to your base station, if you have not already done this, please see the guide below.
To setup on a Known Position, ensure that Known Position is selected.
With your Reference Mode selected, press Start Reference.
Once Start Reference is selected, choose the option that best fits your needs. This method will only work it the point has Geodetic coordinates associated with it. Do not use this method if your point is not a GNSS point saved in the project.
Once the coordinates have been set, select Set Position.
Next, measure from the ground above which the receiver is placed to one of the measure points on the receiver.
Select the appropriate Measure Point and enter the Measured Height.
With the correct height measured, select Ok.
In the Link Configure menu, select the Device Type as UHF Radio Module and the Device Port as Internal.

If you know the coordinates of your base station position, and this is your first time setup at this site, this is the guide for you.
This guide assumes you have already connected to your base station, if you have not already done this, please see the guide below.
To setup on a Known Point for the first time, select the Known Position button above Start Reference.
Next, select the Local Transformation to Point option from the Reference Position Mode menu.
With your Reference Mode selected, press Start Reference.
Next, either select your known point or enter the relevant coordinates.
You will begin to average a position, when a sufficient number of coordinates has been averaged, select Set Position.
It is highly recommended that you save the base position to the file. This will allow you to return to site and not have to perform a localization on the second day.
Select Yes.
Enter any relevant information and select Store Pnt to save your position to file.
Next, measure from the ground above which the receiver is placed to one of the measure points on the receiver.
Select the appropriate Measure Point and enter the Measured Height.
With the correct height measured, select Ok.

Next, to search for your device, select Bluetooth Device List.

To setup the StormCaster login, select the Press to Setup option.
Next, enter the information associated with the APN information on your SIM card.
You can often find this information online by searching the cell carrier and APN. Ex. ROGERS APN or AT&T APN. You may have to try different options to find the best one for your card, if your carrier does not provide it.
Next, to add your network information, select the Press to Modify button.
Next, to create a new NTRIP login, select the Add option.
Enter all of the information that is related to the login information for StormCaster. You will need a description of NTRIP Caster, the Address, the Port, and the Username and Password.
Once all of the information has been entered, select Ok.
Next, choose your Caster from the list and press Select.
To setup the base, select Connect.
Once the broadcast has started, the radio light on the receiver will begin flashing once per second.
You will be returned to the Map Screen. To continue onto the rover setup, select the Plumb Bob in the bottom of the screen. To see how to connect your rover, please consult one of the below guides.

If you receiver is not present, select the Search option.
If your device is on, you should see a device name that matches the serial number found on the bottom of the receiver. Select your receiver.

Once connected, if your receiver does not automatically connect, you will be taken to the Link Configure screen.
Ensure that Device Type is selected as GSM Module and the Device Port is set to Internal. Ensure the Message Type is set to the same as the base or to Any.
Next, select Press to Setup to view the settings.
Next enter the APN information for your SIM card. If you do not know the information for your carrier, please call us at 1-888-286-3204 or search for APN <carrier name>.
Next, the NTRIP Settings will need to be entered. Select Press to Modify.
Enter your login information for your network. This includes the Description, Address, Port, Username and Password.
Once entered, select Ok.
In the Mobile Settings menu, select Ok.
Finally, select Connect.
Next, select Request Soucetable to see all available mountpoints.
Select the Mountpoint that is best suited for your area and equipment. Press Select.
To finish the network setup, press Select. By default the options will be set to the best option for your network.
On the Map Screen, you should see an RTK Fixed solution in the bottom right corner.
Before surveying, select the Antenna Height option to enter the measured height.
Again, enter the Measured Height and appropriate measure point.
Select Ok to save the settings.
You are now ready to survey but, if you see Initialize IMU, follow the guide below to calibrate the tilt sensor.

Looking to setup your network rover up for the first time? With FieldGenius, you can setup a profile that will save your settings and make setup faster the next time. All you need is to ensure that you have a WiFi or hotspot connection on your data collector.
To begin, select the Plumb Bob to open the Main Menu.
From the Main Menu select the Connect option.
In the Instruments Profile menu, select the GNSS Rover option.
Next, you can create a new profile by selecting Add. Once created select Edit to move forward with your profile.
From the GNSS Profile menu, select the Model and Communication option.
In the Model and Communication menu, select the Make as Hemisphere and the Model as S631. Ensure the Port is set to Bluetooth.
To pair your receiver, select Bluetooth Device List.
In the Bluetooth Device List menu, you will be presented with a list of any instruments you had previously connected to. If your instrument is in the list you can select it.
If you receiver is not present, select the Search option.
If your device is on, you should see a device name that matches the serial number found on the bottom of the receiver. Select your receiver.
With your device highlighted in the Bluetooth Device List, select the Close option.
Finally, select Connect.

Ensure that Device Type is selected as Data Collector Internet and the Device Port is set to Internal. Ensure the Message Type is set to the same as the base or to Any.
Next, select Press to Setup to view the settings.
Next, the NTRIP Settings will need to be entered. Select Press to Modify.
Enter your login information for your network. This includes the Description, Address, Port, Username and Password.
Once entered, select Ok.
In the Mobile Settings menu, select Ok.
Finally, select Connect.
Next select Request Sourcetable to see all available RTK mountpoints.
Select the mountpoint that best fits your area and equipment. RTCM3.2 MSM is the best option for the S631. Press Select.
By default, the options will be best for your mountpoint. Press Select.
On the Map Screen, you should see an RTK Fixed solution in the bottom right corner.
Before surveying, select the Antenna Height option to enter the measured height.
Again, enter the Measured Height and appropriate measure point.
Select Ok to save the settings.
You are now ready to survey but, if you see Initialize IMU, follow the guide below to calibrate the tilt sensor.

With a Fixed Solution, select RTK Fixed in the bottom right of the corner of the Map Screen.
If the position meets your tolerances, select Store Position.
Next, enter all of the information relevant to your position including the Description, Point ID, and more.
Once complete select Store Pnt to save your coordinates to the Map Screen and your project.

Recording points in FieldGenius automatically is really simple. To begin, select Standard Measure.
Next, select the Auto Recording option.
Select the Interval whether it be Time or Distance. Enter the Interval.
Once set, select Ok.
To start the auto storing, select the RTK Fixed button. As you move, or as time passes the points will begin to automatically record.
It is recommended to change your Tolerance to Auto Skip Meas. Stats and Auto Store Meas. See the guide on Quick Set Tolerances.

Taking offset measurements allow you to store a point in an otherwise inaccessible location. Before you begin, ensure that you have a fixed solution.
Select Standard Measure to begin. This option may be different if you were previously using another Measure Mode.
In the Measure Mode menu, select Offset Measurement.
With Measurement Mode selected, press RTK Fix.
Next, press Start Point.
You will now see the Tolerance screen and if your tolerance is met select Store.
Next, to set the Direction of the offset measure the End Point. Move towards the point you wish to measure, and when in line select End Point.
Again, press Store.
Next, enter the Horizontal and Vertical Distances. Measure from the Endpoint, or where you wish to measure the point from.
With the Offset prepared, at the same End Point, select Measure.
Again, select Store if the results are accurate.
Finally, to save the Offset to the Map Screen, press Store Point.
Save your point.
To return to the Map Screen, select Close.
